About The Founder

Empowering families through personal journeys, inspired by the founder's vision and experiences.

Hi, I’m Sam Mourning and I'm the founder and owner of Life Transitions of Colorado. Over the past 40 years, I’ve walked an eclectic path that’s taken me from the structured world of military intelligence and space systems engineering to the deeply human experience of nursing and hospice care.

My professional life began in the United States Air Force, where I spent a decade immersed in intelligence and space operations. Those years weren’t just about technical expertise; they taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of working with a mission-driven team.

After my military service, I ventured into the private sector as a Space Systems Engineer. I took on the challenge of leading critical spacecraft projects, where I navigated the intricate dance between cutting-edge technology and collaborative teamwork. These experiences taught me to balance the big picture with a keen attention to detail; skills that have shaped my approach to every endeavor since.

It was in 2012 that I truly found my calling. That’s when I embraced a path in nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and dedicating the next decade to hospice care. Supporting patients and their families during such a critical time in their lives has been one of the most profound and humbling experiences of my life. It’s a role that goes beyond medical care—it’s about empathy, patience, and genuinely listening to understand the needs of the people I work with. This passion for caregiving and education led me to create Life Transitions of Colorado, where I’m committed to helping families navigate the challenges of caregiving with confidence and support.

Educationally, I’ve followed my craving for knowledge wherever it led me, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership, and Associate of Science degrees in Communications Technology, and General Studies. Each step in my education has been about more than just gaining knowledge; it’s been about understanding how to lead, how to communicate, and how to connect with others.

These days, I’m not looking for new employment opportunities in the traditional sense. I’m here to connect, to share my experience, and to learn from others who’ve also taken the road less traveled. Whether it’s in the world of space technology, at a patient’s bedside, or teaching families a better way to care for those they love, my goal is to keep growing, giving, and finding the profound meaning in the work I do.

I hope you'll allow us to serve your family.
